GENERAL INNES N. PALMER - DOCUMENT SIGNED 01/12/1853?INNES PALMER. Receipt signed: "I N Palmer/Bvt Capt & Adj/Rifles", 1p, 8x6. No place, 1853 January 5. Palmer signs for receipt of rations for 10 men for 7 days for an escort for Col. Loring [?]. The daily ration includes bacon, beef, flour, bread, coffee, sugar, beans, rice, vinegar, candles, soap and salt. In 1847, Innes N. Palmer (1824-1900) was brevetted First Lieutenant for gallant and meritorious conduct in the Mexican War at the battles of Contreras and Churubusco. Palmer later served in the Civil War, and was brevetted Lieutenant-Colonel, U.S. Army, in 1861 for meritorious service at Bull Run. In 1865 he was made Brigadier General of Volunteers. He fought Indians in the 1870's as Colonel, 2nd U.S. Cavalry. Slightly frayed at right edge, which is also lightly toned. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
